Two die in fire as truck flips

A pickup truck carrying about 70 cylinders of liquid propane gas (LPG) overturned and caught fire in Bangkok's Rat Burana district yesterday, killing the driver and his co-worker. Police said driver Banpot Aninram, 33, may have been speeding and then lost control of the vehicle when he approached a sharp curve, as the road was slippery after a downpour.
The truck hit a road island and overturned before catching fire. The blaze was fuelled by LPG gas from the cylinders.
Rat Burana police blocked in-bound traffic on Rat Burana road while firefighters dealt with the blaze, which took about 10 minutes to put out. The accident brought traffic to a standstill.
Police said the pickup truck belonged to Prachachon Gas shop, owned by Rattanakul Witthayanan, in Bang Kho Laem district.
The driver's assistant was identified as Sunthorn Prueangkha.
